First up you may ask why I would be talking about philosophy. Well,
there are a number of reasons.
The
first reason is that I believe that a persons philosophy of life
carries through into the manner in which they do all things. How
you think will affect how you act. What you believe will determine
your motivation, method and actions. In other words, what a person
believes about themselves and the people and world around them has
a direct impact on their way for living, both in their personal
and their professional spheres of life.
Secondly,
and this follows on from the first reason, I believe that ones personal
life has a strong bearing on their public life. Some people have
said that "what a person does in private is of no concern to
the public, as long as they do their job well". This comment
is usually made in relation to people who have a very public life
(politicians, celebrities, etc), however I think it also is applied
to other professions. I disagree with the statement entirely. There
is no way that a person can have a dishonest, promiscuous, and unruly
private life without it adversely affecting their "public"
life. The former comes out of a worldview. How a person behaves
in public may be more subdued, but it also comes out of this same
worldview.
How
important do I think a persons worldview is? I think it is the most
fundamentally important thing in a persons life. A person who believes
in honesty, integrity, compassion, and love above all things is
a person to have as a friend and a person to do business with.
