NSW
DRIFT CHAMPIONSHIP RESULT
After some mediocre results at a couple of rounds, and suffering
an engine failure on the last round which forced the car out in
qualifying, I can say that I am happy with the final results of
7th place.

The
Ghostweb drift car.
The Ghostweb drift car is a Toyota JZX90 MarkII TourerV.
They come from the factory with a in-line 6 cylinder 2.5L Twin Turbo
engine that produces 280HP.
This particular car has been modified to produce in excess of 450HP
especially for competition use. The extra power enables the driver
to carry big angle, high speed drifts up to about 150km/h. Currently
the Ghostweb TourerV is the only automatic drift car in competition.
An automatic gearbox is somewhat of a disadvantage, without the
ability clutch kick, or shift lock, or fan the clutch mid corner,
and so requires more precise throttle control and delicate weight
shifting.
The car is driven at Oran Park, Eastern Creek and Wakefield Park.
We finished in 7th position in the 2005 Initial Drift NSW Championships,
and also placed 16th in the Full Lock National Drift Championship
round at Oran Park to place 32nd overall from competing in only
one of the 5 rounds.
The car has modifications to the suspension, differential, and engine
specifically tailored for the type of driving it receives. More
details about the car can be found here.

What is drifting?
Drifting is the art of controlling a car beyond the limit of traction.
It is a bit like rally on tarmac except all of the cars are rear
wheel drive.
Essentially,
the aim in drift competition is to slide your car through a series
of corners with as much speed, angle and style as possible. Drifting
a corner is not always the fastest way through a corner but is arguably
the most exciting way.

Tyres
are usually the biggest casualty at drift events.
